Talent 21 Grant Information

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act LogoThe Lawrence Township Public Schools has received a $1.4 million grant entitled “Teaching and Learning with Essential New Technologies in the 21st Century (Talent21)” from the New Jersey Department of Education, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Beginning in June 2010 and extending over a two-year period, the grant will help to establish 21st century learning environments in grades six and seven that blend physical and digital infrastructures to seamlessly support learning. Students will experience a 1:1 mobile device, more technology access during and after school, use of Web Tools 2.0, and online collaboration.

In August and September, approximately 300 sixth graders at Lawrence Intermediate School received a mobile computing device. As students advance to seventh grade at Lawrence Middle School in September of 2011, they will take the mobile devices with them, and the incoming class of sixth graders will receive a new one. About one-fourth of the grant is dedicated to professional development for teachers to train them on making the best use of the devices and integrating them into the curriculum.
